Open World Ukraine surgeons hosting, November, 2024
A group of five surgeons from Ukraine were hosted in Omaha as part of a cultural and educational exchange sponsored by the Congressional Office for International Leadership's Open World Program. They were hosted in our homes at night, but by day they were at the University of Nebraska Medical Center exchanging information on the treatment of traumatic injuries as a result of the conflict in Ukraine.
Viktor Romanchuk, head of the planned surgery department with the Military Medical Clinical Center of the Central Region in Ukraine, said many lives were saved after officials reorganized a mobile surgical hospital a little more than half a mile from the front line. The surgeons have learned and taught students about technical equipment and shared information from their experiences.
